Miles Gilster was born and raised in the great state of Texas, where he spent a majority of his childhood bass fishing local waters, playing sports, and learning the meaning of service from the many Marine veterans who neighbored him. Their stories and patriotism shaped his own sense of duty from a young age. In 2019, Miles enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a Seabee, working as an Equipment Operator Second Class. His four-year military career took him across the country from San Diego, California to Panama City, Florida, where he was selected to attend Navy Dive School. An injury before graduation ultimately led to being medically dropped from training and a final year stationed in Ventura, California. Then in 2023, Miles honorably completed his service. After transitioning out of the military, Miles chose a new path. He moved to Greenville, South Carolina to be with his girlfriend he met during dive training in Florida, and soon began pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Clemson University where he is a current student and involved in the Student Veteran Association. When Miles isn’t studying, he can be found fishing rivers, coyote hunting, planning cross-country duck hunts for over Christmas break, or chasing his true love, public land whitetail deer. The outdoors was important to Miles’ childhood and now more than ever has become a powerful form of therapy for him. The woods have helped guide his transition into civilian life and been a pure source of peace for his journey. From Texas, to Navy bases, to the mountains and rivers of the Southeast, Miles carries with him a lifelong respect for hard work, service, and the freedom of the outdoors.
